6-24-2018 Halfmoon Trail

Traveled about an hour and 45 minutes west near Minturn to check out Halfmoon trail.  A wooded hike with a supposedly great payoff.

There is a nice drive to the trail head that winds through grassy areas peppered with wildflowers and trees.





The trail head itself starts you off immediately in the woods



There are several ares that open up into some small views






This hike steadily inclines and can tax you relatively easily if you are not conditioned to hiking in elevation (like I was).  Didn't make it up to the summit so there are no payoff pics but that is motivation for the next time.

It was a hot dry day when we decided to hike Lookout Mountain which is only 30ish minutes to the west of downtown Denver. We loaded up on water and snacks and started off at the lookout area. We then hit the real trail and had some welcome shade for awhile. After awhile of forest the trail opened up to some great views and some hot sun! We were originally going to do St. Mary's Glacier but we decided to head back and do Chief Mountain Then a little reward of drinks and buffalo chicken nachos at Westbound and Down in Idaho Springs.
